Most of the spices and ingredients in traditional indian cuisine is adding medicinal value it. These spicy foods have evolved over the ages to relieve common health complaints of the people. The latest discoveries also supports this medicinal values of the spices.

With our research we have noted that even with a very high food consumption and less effort on fitness, the people with this Ayurvedic based food practices are not obese. One main reason is the medicinal value of some ingredients are nullifying the adverse effect of other ingredients as a whole there by  making the meal healthy. This gives the freedom to eat and enjoy the best tastes without worrying about the health.

Some examples of the latest findings :

Malabar tamarind (Garcinia cambogia)
Dried fruits of Garcinia cambogia (hydroxycitric acid), also called Malabar tamarind, are widely used as a spice in the preparation of fish curry in southern India. Latest researches have proved that use of Garcinia extract (and its main constituent hydroxycitric acid) for obesity control and recommended daily intake for weight management.

Turmeric (Curcuma longa)
Medical  uses includes digestive aid, analgesic (due to the action of turmeric's main constituent, curcumin), antiseptic, expectorant and anti-inflammatory. This medicinal spice has also been studied for its anti-cancer properties.
The study found that salicylic acid, the active ingredient in aspirin, is naturally available in certain Indian spices like cumin, turmeric and paprika.Researchers at the Rowett Research Institute said that curry does not cause side effects like internal bleeding and ulcers, which are common with long-term aspirin use. “One portion of vindaloo we examined contained 95mg of salicylic acid, more than the amount in an aspirin tablet. A low-dose aspirin tablet contains about 65mg of the acid," the researchers added.

Cumin
Healing Power and Curative Properties
The fruit is a rich source of thymol. Thymol is used as an anthelmintic against hookworm infections and also as an antiseptic in many proprietary preparations. It is a stimulant, which increases the secretion and discharge of urine and relieves flatulence. It strengthens the functions of stomach and arrests any bleeding.

Rice with bran:
Rice bran and its oil contain large concentrations of several compounds that could potentially prevent chronic diseases such as coronary heart disease and cancer. Studies on rice bran proved that it contained high levels of both tocopherols and tocotrienols, which compromise vitamin E and act as antioxidants in the body. Also, high levels of a mixture of compounds referred to collectively as oryzanol were identified within rice bran. The antioxidant activities of four of the vitamin E and three oryzanol components containted in rice bran has significant antioxidant capacity and inhibited cholesterol oxidation.
